uSe Search Box

- Type your search term in the text box (1).
- Select a Content Group (2) for your search by clicking on the button next to it (for example " Clinical Guidelines & Tools"). Each Content Group lists resources that are available for searching. For more about Content Groups see the next section.
- Select a mapping mode (3) from the drop down list. For more about mapping, click on the "i" button next to the word "Map".

Selecting a Content Group
Selecting the type of resource to search is made easy using the uSe Content Groups. For example the Content Group "Clinical Guidelines & Tools" lists a range of clinical guidelines, handbooks and teaching guidellines.

- In the example shown the Content Group Clinical Guidelines & Tools is selected and a menu listing available resources is shown.
- If you want to search ALL available resources within the selected Content Group, check "Select All", or ensure all resources are selected by clicking on the relevant checkboxes.
- To exclude a resource from your search simply de-select by clicking again on its check box. The 'tick' will disappear.
- Not sure what resources to search? Click the "i" button next to a resource of interest for more information.

Search Queries and Examples
Type your search term or phrase into the text box. Combine terms or phrases using operators such as AND or OR.
Example queries:
- asthma and salbutamol - searches for content that must contain both terms
- adrenaline or noradrenaline - searches for content with either term
- lung transplant - searches for the phrase "lung transplant" (ie: words must be adjacent)
- prinz* - match with words that begin with "prinz" - eg. Prinzmetal angina. (note: '$' can no longer be uSed).
- title.asthma and author.phung x - search for specific title and author (last name then first initial)

Subject Mapping Screen

Click on "Continue" to proceed with your search or "Back" to go back to the previous screen.
For each search term/phrase, a row with three columns is shown:

- The first column shows the original term/phrase entered
- The second column
- Top half shows synonyms to the original term. Untick checkboxes of any synonyms you wish to omit from your search
- Bottom half shows alternative subjects. Click on "[REPLACE]" to search on one of these subjects in place of your original term. Click on the 'i' button if you want to find out more about the alternative subjects.
- The third column contains a drop-down list to limit the field to search in
Remapping:
Your mapped query will be used on all subsequent search result screens. You will see a label "mapped to uSe thesaurus" at the top of these search result screens. To force the remapping of an existing query, click on the link in this label to go back to the subject mapping screen. Amend the mapping selections, or enter a new query
into the search box, and then click on "Continue >>".

Search Results
Search results are presented in a tabbed view (1).

Click any of the search result links (2) to open a popup window with the indicated article.
